In 2022, Black and Hispanic/Latino people accounted for more than 70% of new HIV infections in the United StatesBlack people are disproportionately affected by HIV, even though they make up about 12% of the US population: 
  • New HIV diagnoses
    In 2022, Black people accounted for 38% of new HIV diagnoses among people aged 13 and older. The rate of new HIV diagnoses per 100,000 Black adults and adolescents was 41.6, which is about 8 times higher than the rate for White people. 
  • HIV treatment
    A CDC study found that 75% of Black people diagnosed with HIV were linked to care, but only 46% were prescribed antiretroviral therapy.
